Eyelid Surgery in Huntersville, NC

The condition of your upper and lower eyelids can make you appear tired. Dr. Briggs E. Cook, Jr., a board-certified Huntersville surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery, recommends eyelid surgery to rejuvenate the eyelids.  The procedure gives people in Charlotte and nearby communities a more attractive and healthy appearance.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Pure Facial Plastic Surgery offers eyelid surgery for men and women. Also known as blepharoplasty, the procedure can be performed on the lower or upper eyelids. In some cases, Dr. Cook recommends correction to both the upper and lower eyelids.

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery at Pure Facial Plastic Surgery:

  • Removes excess skin and fat from the eyelids
  • Reduces fine lines under the eyes
  • May improve vision by eliminating soft tissue that hangs over the eyes
  • Corrects bags under the eyes and sagging of the lower eyelid

Eyelid surgery does not correct the eyebrow area or reduce puffiness around the eyes.

When Should I Have Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is primarily recommended to correct the signs of aging in those who are around 35 years of age or older. In younger patients, the surgery may be an appropriate treatment for certain congenital problems and trauma-related changes to the eyelids.

What Should I Expect From Eyelid Surgery?

Twilight anesthesia is used for eyelid surgery. Dr. Cook may perform the surgery on one or both eyes during your surgical appointment. His choice to use two surgical appointments is generally based on the patient’s ability to recover and heal properly.

For upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Cook makes an incision along the natural crease of skin that rests on the upper part of your eyeball. He may extend the incision beyond the outer corner of your eye in order to soften crow’s feet. Incisions for lower eyelid surgery are placed along the eyelash line and/or just inside the eyelid.

Dr. Cook works on one eyelid at a time. After the incision is made, he removes the excess fat and skin.  When he is satisfied with the result, he closes the incision with very tiny sutures and moves to the next eyelid.

After a short recovery at our facility, you return home. Your vision may seem blurry, and your eyes may be swollen. We may cover your eyes with sterile gauze.  Dr. Cook will give you special eye drops or an ointment that needs to be placed in your eyes as directed. You should sleep with your head elevated.  Non-prescription pain medications and cool compresses can help with any discomfort.

You can wear glasses immediately after the surgery, but do not wear contact lenses for at least one to two weeks. Watching television, using the computer and reading may lengthen your recovery because these activities dry out your eyes. You will need to stay home and rest for seven to 14 days after eyelid surgery.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results of eyelid surgery are permanent. Because the eye area has very delicate skin, you should wear sunscreen to prevent sun damage.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

If eyelid surgery is medically necessary, your insurance may cover a portion of the cost. You are responsible for any remaining balance. We accept payment by cash, personal check, major credit card and Alphaeon™ Credit financing.
