Voluma® XC in Huntersville, NC
As we get older, our cheeks and mid-face lose the round, full appearance that helps us look young. Restoring volume to these areas reduces lines and wrinkles and gives us a younger, more vibrant appearance. Pure Facial Plastic Surgery is a leading practitioner of Voluma® XC, an injectable treatment that restores fullness in the cheeks for up to two years. Dr. Briggs E. Cook, Jr., a board-certified Huntersville surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery, and Denise Curtis, PA offer Voluma® XC treatments for people living in Charlotte and the surrounding communities.
What is Voluma® XC?
Voluma® XC is unique amongst dermal fillers and injectables because the product is FDA-approved to enhance fullness in the cheeks and mid-face areas. Treatments work by adding a subtle lift that corrects lines, wrinkles and lost volume in the area. Voluma® XC contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that is naturally found in your body. HA attracts and bonds with water to give your face attractive, youthful contours and fullness. The added volume also reduces lines and wrinkles that are caused by skin that sags due to volume loss in the treatment areas.
Benefits of Voluma® XC
Voluma® XC is an excellent option for those who do not need facelift surgery to reduce the signs of aging. The benefits of Voluma® XC treatments are:
- No surgery required
- No downtime
- Looking up to five years younger without surgery
- Treatments take less than one hour
- Results last up to two years
What is Voluma® XC Used For?
Dr. Cook or Denise Curtis, PA recommend Voluma® XC to add fullness to the mid-face area, including the:
- Under-eye area
- Area from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds)
What Should I Expect From Voluma® XC Treatments?
Voluma® XC and other injectables are administered with needles that are much smaller than those used for your vaccinations. Most patients experience no discomfort when the needle is inserted into the skin, and you may only experience a sensation of minor pressure as Voluma® XC is injected. The product also contains lidocaine, a numbing agent, to help minimize discomfort. If needed, we can use local anesthesia to further numb the area prior to the injections.
You may need multiple injections for best results. Treatment times are generally between 30 to 60 minutes each, and you can see results immediately after one treatment. Dr. Cook or Denise Curtis, PA may recommend a follow-up treatment three months after your initial injection. Results typically last up to two years.
Side effects after Voluma® XC treatments are associated with the injection, and may include bruising, tenderness, swelling and bleeding, all of which are minor. Dr. Cook and Denise Curtis, PA recommend that you take these measures before your treatment to reduce the likelihood of the side effects:
- Do not consume alcohol for at least two days before your appointment.
- Speak to your doctor about temporarily stopping medications and supplements that increase bruising.
- Plan to have your treatments at least two weeks before any special occasions or events.
What Should my Physician Explain to me About Voluma® XC Treatments?
Voluma® XC is not recommended for patients with certain allergies, including the ingredients in the product. Dr. Cook and Denise Curtis, PA also advise their patients about the rare complications associated with Voluma® XC injections, such as:
- Bumps in or around the treatment area
In clinical trials, these complications occurred in less than 20% of subjects. Other rare complications that have been reported with Voluma® XC treatments are:
- Vision problems
